In Memory of Roger... for Mother's Day
Tennis Cat / Design Cat / Angel Cat
A true "velcro kitty."
Roger was our best feline friend here in the Design Studio for 15 years, and my mom’s faithful companion during her last months in 2010.
A sleek mini-panther, he was rescued from the middle of a busy street in Burbank, California, by two ladies who staffed a local pet shop. Roger would have made an excellent barn cat — the Rancho equestrian neighborhood is nearby — if we had not adopted him as our Design Cat. The iconic Gayer-Anderson Cat in the British Museum's Egyptian galleries bears a striking resemblance to Roger.
How did he get the name Roger?... Answer: legendary tennis player Roger Federer! Our Roger loved to glide across the kitchen floor chasing a tennis ball or other toy, or leap onto the counter or living room mantle when no-one was looking… He was fleet of foot and had an abundance of charm, style and athletic grace. And his purr was the best! When we visited Wimbledon, the iconic home of tennis, we brought back several mini tennis balls — much to Roger’s delight!
